10/21 Recap: Sabres at Panthers

And here we all thought there'd be a 60 minute beati...oh who am I kidding, this is our Sabres. All of our offense in the first period, and lots of sloppy play from both teams in the remaining two. Not really surprising. These flashes of inconsistency need to go bye-bye.

Who Kicked Ass
- The Sabres during the first period.
- The dumbass goal judge in Sunshine. Silly dude, the light only goes on for good goals.
- Patty Kaleta's shit-talking. Whatever you said to Horton, Patty, keep saying it cuz it was GOLDEN!
- Derek Roy. That was some SERIOUS two-way play for Roy-Z!

Who Didn't
- Scott Clemmensen. 'Nuff said.
- The Sabres during the second and third period. Coasting on talent and not effort pisses me off. Quit fucking around, guys.

The Internet-Literate, Message Board-Frequenting Sabres Gnome Star of the Night

And the star goes to...Derek Roy! Not known AT ALL for his defensive play, Roy was noticeable for his backcheck and defense tonight. Way to play out of character, and for the better!

Paille to Beantown

Well, Mouthbreather's days of riding the pressbox as the odd-forward-out are over. Looch is sidelined and the Bruins just got Paille from the Sabres for a 3rd and conditional 4th to fill in.

Poor kid never stuck in BFLO, and with Mac absolutely ripping it up, there was just no room left for him. Good luck in Boston, kiddo.

10/17 Recap: Thrashers at Sabres

OMG I have never uttered such profanity at a game as I did last night. Such a lackluster effort. Lazy and pathetic all-around.

Who Kicked Ass
- Ilya Kovalchuk. That dude picks off and dangles like a goddamn champ.
- None of the Sabres.

Who Didn't
- All of the Sabres, save Ellis who was injured.

To steal a line from Katebits, OMG THE SABRES WILL NEVER WIN AGAIN!

10/16 Recap: Islander at Sabres

Well, that was fun! I went to The Aud sports bar and grill tonight with Missy and Jay, with Dave joining us, and it was a blast. A real good hockey atmosphere there. What a game to watch, too! Onto the review.

Who Kicked Ass
- Myers! Not exactly the best defensive game he's played since the beginning of the season, but his offensive output was great. Such a forward-like goal he scored tonight!! He shows real offensive aptitude and his game keeps improving. I haven't seen a true franchise defenseman since I've been a really hardcore fan, but Myers may be the first.
- Grizz (thanks, Andy!). MacArthur played a very good game tonight. GREAT hands on his penalty shot goal, and an all-around good game. He was buzzing all night.
- John Tavares. I know he's the opposition, but I have a soft spot for him, being the nephew of the great JT. Good game played the phenom, and he's certainly living up the hype.
- Buffalo-area hockey fans. That standing ovation for Marty tonight is one of the classiest things I have EVAR seen in my time as a hockey fan. Kudos to you, my hockey-loving brethren!

Who Didn't
- Roli The Goalie. Second straight night the Sabres chased the starting goalie. C'mon, Roloson, you should have had two of those four. Sad.

The Jolly, Drunken Sabres Gnome Star of the Night
And the Star goes to...Tyler Myers. A two-game point streak, with three points in that period, Tyler continues to show more and more facets of his game. Drunken hyperbole aside, this kid truly is The Franchise Defenseman (kudos to you, The Goose's Roost).

Buffalo WHAT?!

Today...is a very merry Bandits day.

First off, JT (the original) will be at the Arena tonight to see his nephew skate. Before the game, he will be in the Labatt Zone with Darris Kilgour, Billy Dee Smith, and Kyle Schmelzle doing things. Too bad I didn't get anyone to take my bet from my previous post or I'd be $5 richer.

Secondly, the Bandits have announced that they've put their 2010 individual game tickets on sale today. Prices only jumped a single buck since last season, and with the incredible talent and success the team sports, the Bandits have one of the best values in all of sport.

Random Thoughts

So, I was ruminating on the possibility that the Sabres' top line could actually be Mair/Roy/Stafford in two nights. Not gonna lie, I'm gonna miss having the 40-goal talent of Thomas Vanek even for one night, but the idea of a mean man on the top line kinda excites me. Mair's hitting, yapping, and otherwise lunatic antics will open up plenty of ice for Roy and Stafford to get all skillsy with the puck.

Here's hoping that the system continues to prevail in a win over the Islanders and Little JT. I'll put USD$5 down right now that Big JT (of eternal Bandits fame) will be in attendance and might even sit with RJ and Harry for a spell.

10/13 Red Wings at Sabres

Alright, folks - the debut of my new post-game format. What a game to show it off!

Who Kicked Ass
- Well, pretty much everyone. I think we all saw the strengths of their individual games within the system tonight.
- Tyler Myers. Coast to coast rush. Lethal control of the point on the power play with Butler. Awesome.
- Kaleta. He hits, he scores, he sets plays up. He's got scoring touch? Enjoy it for now!
- Roy. 3 assists on 3 straight goals. Goddamn.
- Vanek. Dirty dangle + lucky bounce = HDTV on a roll...except for his injury. Damn.

Who Didn't
- Osgood. Goddamn, son.

The Jolly, Drunken Sabres Gnome Star of the Night

And the Star goes to...hell, the whole team! This was a perfect team effort, a 60 minute battle fought by all the troops.

If only...

So, I was digging around the White Screen of Death - the new "upgraded" official Sabres forums - and I stumbled upon this stunning mock-up done by user seanothan37. Interestingly enough, it features a gold third jersey design.

How about that uniform set? That set is sexy...easily the best in the league if it were the genuine article. C'mon Larry, here's your chance to right all the wrongs!
